Walk: 5km
We were up an on the road abut 6:45 am heading for the West Coast Peninsular and National Park to view the wild flowers. This is a private area that is only open to the public in August and September each year for the viewing of the flowers. Debs had done an excellent job of making coffee to go for the three of us (a friend of Debbie, Jenny, joined us), and a picnic of note.
After 136km, we stopped to view Langebaan Lagoon, where Debbie will start her 6km swim, a few weeks. The water was very clear, but would have been quite icy, and there was hefty wind. We had breakfast and a little wander then continued into the National Park. We stopped many times to get out and photograph the wildflowers that were everywhere and made for a very pretty sight. A quick pre-mornos bite and we set off to climb the rock at Postberg lookout point. Very speccy views, but we didn't stay long as the wind was increasing and it was still a bit fresh. Another comfort stop at Plankiesbaai picnic area, then it was a slow drive to Geelbeck restaurant and visitor centre for lunch. However, the restaurant was closed.
Back in the car, out of the park and we had lunch at Weskus Padstal (West Coast Farm Stall). I also bout some biltong (beef jerkey and koeksisters (plaited doughnut dough soaked in liquid sugar, a childhood tret from way back). Some of the biltong may have been consumed on the way home! The koeksisters were for dessert.
Debs and I sat and chatted for ages, until neither of us could keep our eyes open. It was a long, but very enjoyable, day - thank you so much Debs and Jenny.
