Walk: 7km
Up at 5:15am to do a final pack and have a coffee. We left the hotel at 6:30am for the airport. Our flight was not until 9:45am, but we were advised to leave at 6:30am due to potential traffic; there was very little traffic and we were at the airport at 7am. Didn't matter, we always like to be early rather than late. After checking in, we cleared immigration and headed for the airport lounge where we had breakfast. We had Peter Rollason with us even though his flight was 45mins after ours. We made sure he got a good feed in the lounge before the wheelchair man came to take him to his gate. After he left we were all a little sad as we believe this may be the last time we see him.
We boarded on time, took off on time, and landed on time. We flew Airlink on an Embraer 190 and the seats and service were good. Victoria Falls international airport looks great from the outside but is still very mandrolic on the inside, apart from the temperature monitoring machine that told me my temperature was too high to enter. The man told me to step to one side to cool down, so I did and splashed a bit of water on my face. Two further attempts and I was allowed entry. Paid USD50 to one person at Immigration who passed the ticket to another who hand wrote the details on a sticky visa and then stuck it in my passport. Waited around for the luggage, went through the green route, and found the man with "Walker" on a sign. We had a huge coach for the transfer to Insika Lodge.
I was in room B3 with Nita and Marianne on onside and Sylvain on the other. Very nice rooms with open plan bathroom and enough power points up Vic Falls! We didn’t have a lot of time to settle in
as the last shuttle to the Falls left at 3pm and we wanted to be on it, and we
made it.
After paying USD50 for a ticket to the Falls, we did Livingstone statue first, then Devils Cataract, the main Falls. I was starting to feel a little weary by the time we got ¾ of the way to the end, so turned back. Nita and Marianne followed. The boys said there was not much to see from then on anyway, so we didn’t miss much. Paid USD15 to get back to the lodge where I climbed into bed and slept for an hour. I was still not feeling well, so elected to miss the Boma Village and Drums planned for the evening. I didn’t do a lot apart from take aspirin and paracetamol as I did have a temperature. Once I got that under control, I felt a whole lot better.
